Questions parents ask
What is the Bravery Journal?
A free printable workbook for ages 4–7 that pairs with The Pickle, the Patch, and the Puppy. Your child builds a Bravery Ladder — a list of small steps toward something that scares them — then draws and writes their way up it, one rung at a time. It includes a parent page explaining how to pace the ladder, and rung certificates that arrive by email as your child climbs.
What age is the Bravery Journal for?
Ages 4–7. The drawing boxes are large and the practice lines are wide, so a child who isn’t writing independently yet can still use it by drawing while a grown-up writes the words.
Do I have to buy the book to use the journal?
No. The journal is free and works on its own. It’s built around the same Bravery Ladder idea as the book, so they reinforce each other, but you don’t need one for the other.
Can I use the Bravery Ladder for fears other than dogs?
Yes. The Bravery Ladder can be used for any fear a child can name — swimming, the dark, doctor visits, sleeping alone. You name the scary thing, break it into rungs your child agrees to, and climb at their pace.
How fast should we move up the ladder?
As slowly as your child needs. The most common mistake is moving to the next rung because the grown-up is ready. A rung is finished when your child says it is.
